Posted on February 05 2018

Whilst halting your house hunt because you've finally found your forever home is a fantastic feeling, it's a universal truth that moving house is a little less fun. Between packing up your entire life's possessions, transporting them safely to your new home, and then settling in, moving house can be chaotic and stressful. It doesn't have to be though. Here at Removal Boxes UK we like to think we've acquired a fair bit of knowledge about moving. With this in mind, we've put together our top tips for moving house. Read on to discover how to somewhat lessen the stress associated with this major life event.

Start Packing Early

As it is, modern life is fast paced and busy. Add into the mix the hassle of moving house and it can be tempting to leave your packing to the last minute. Whilst we appreciate that packing up all your belongings can be a painful process, leaving it to the eleventh hour will only make it worse! It never ceases to amaze us how many people call on a Friday lunchtime, in a panic because they're moving over the weekend, to ask if we can guarantee delivery of the packing boxes the following morning. Our number one house moving tip is to order your boxes for moving weeks in advance and start packing up slowly. It will undoubtedly make the whole transition a lot smoother and calmer! Also, don't forget to buy any additional packing materials you may need.

Declutter And Be Selective

Over the years it's easy accumulate lots of junk which usually ends up in the garage or the attic! When it comes to moving house, think of it as an opportunity for a fresh start. Ask yourself whether you really need to pack certain items. For instance, do you truly need a food processor that's remained in its box since purchase, or will it just take unnecessary space when moving? These non essential items can be sold on eBay, given to charity or put into storage. Of course, kitchen utensils, phone chargers, kettles and toilet paper are items you will likely need instantly. Be sure to properly label the boxes that contain these essential items so they can be easily accessed when you make it to your new home. Managing fewer boxes, and ultimately taking less clutter to your new home, will significantly reduce your stress levels.

I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends!

As the song says 'I get by with a little help from my friends.' With any life event, the people you want by your side are your friends and family. Enlist their help to bear the physical and emotional burden of moving house. Make sure you play to their assets too. If you have a friend that's particularly organised or physically strong, use it to your advantage when you allocate tasks.

Positive Attitude

As far as moving house tips go, this one can be easier said than done! As we mentioned earlier, moving house is a major life event and can be very stressful. There can be so much for you to remember and worry about. What if the removals firm doesn't arrive on time? What if your valuables break in transit? Nonetheless, if you remain unflustered, calm and flexible, even if something goes wrong, this will only serve you well in the long run.

Visit Your New Area

In the run up to moving house we recommend you make a few visits to the area you're moving to. Use your weekends to check out the local pubs or shops on the high street. Not only will it make moving less of an abrupt change for you and your family but you may also meet neighbours and make new friends!

We hope our tips for moving house come in handy and please don't hesitate to contact us if you require any boxes for moving. We guarantee you won't find stronger, more suitable size boxes anywhere else.
